You’ve finally decided to plan that photoshoot, how exciting!
Whether it’s just you, your partner, a friend, or your family, one big question always pops up: “What should we wear?”
No worries, I’ve got you covered!
Below you’ll find some helpful tips to make choosing your outfits easier and to help you feel fully prepared before the big day.
You can come back to this guide anytime before your shoot.
The best advice I can give: wear what makes you feel good.
When you feel confident and comfortable, it truly shows in your photos.
Happy you = beautiful photos and genuine memories!
Empty those pockets! No phones, wallets, or keys, they create unflattering
shapes and can distract from your photos.
Choose tones that complement each other — not clash.
If colors don’t match well in real life, they’ll stand out even more in photos.
Soft neutrals like white, beige, blue, or muted tones always work well together. Choose colors that fit you and the environment of your photoshoot.
Something you’ll still love years from now, without being
distracted by trendy items. Layering works beautifully. It gives you flexibility to adjust if it
gets warmer or cooler and adds depth and variation to your images.
This is especially great for outdoor shoots or during changing seasons.
Avoid bold prints, large logos, or text.
They can pull focus away from what really matters: YOU!
Examples
↟Shooting in a natural setting with warm, earthy tones? > Try blues to stand out.
↟ At an industrial location with grey's? > Add a pop of color for contrast.
↟ On a light sandy area? > Darker colors will add depth.
↟ Surrounded by green forests? > Skip green or brown tones, you’ll blend in!
Avoid dressing in one single color from head to toe, it can make the image look flat.
And steer clear of bright neons or heavy reds, they don’t photograph well.
Add a little personality with accessories, a cute scarf, a hat, or some jewelry can elevate your look.
But remember: less is more. Keep it simple and natural.
Shoes complete your outfit. Choose something that matches your style,
bold boots, soft flats, neutral sneakers.
For summer shoots, sandals or even bare feet give a lovely, relaxed vibe.
Avoid high heels if you’re not used to them, comfort shows in every photo.
If you wear makeup, keep it light and natural. Avoid glitter or shiny products that reflect light or highlight skin imperfections.
If you don’t usually wear makeup but want a touch of something, mascara alone can make your eyes pop beautifully.
For your hair, get a trim or haircut about a week before the shoot. This gives you time to get used to your look and ensures it feels natural.
When multiple people are in the photos, try to coordinate colors instead of matching completely. You want a cohesive, balanced look, not a uniform.
Pick a color palette that ties everyone together — maybe a tone that repeats in accessories, shoes, or tops. This creates harmony without losing personality.
A few quick don’ts to keep in mind:
↟ Skip bold logos and large text.
↟ Avoid fine stripes or small checks, they create a “moire effect” (weird wavy patterns).
↟ Leave tracksuits and loungewear for the couch.
↟ Avoid neon and overly bright red, the camera struggles with them.
The most important thing of all: enjoy every part of the process!
From choosing outfits to laughing during the shoot — it’s all part of the fun.
The more relaxed and happy you feel, the more your photos will reflect your true selves.
